The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 29(1) read with section 57(1) of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004, given notice of her intention to declare certain greenhouse gases as priority air pollutants. The effect of a substance being declared as a priority air pollutant is that a person falling within specified categories is required to prepare and submit a pollution prevention plan in respect of such substances (please refer to Newsflash 1/2016).
Members of the public are invited to submit written comments on the proposed declaration within 30 days after the publication of the notice (i.e. by 8 February 2016).
